This week, Mohammed Mardah announced his endorsement of Yves Filius as City Council District 16. This endorsement follows the City Council District 16 Candidates Forum held this past Saturday, February 6th.
Mardah, Chief Executive Officer of Africans Help Desk and Chairman of the African Advisory Council of the Bronx Borough President’s Office, said “He is the only candidate born in the District, therefore has a vested interest in the future of the district. He has served in various capacities within the district, and would bring those experiences to the position. In the midst of the pandemic, we need a Council member who is ready to tackle the issues with innovative ideas, has the managerial skills and experience, and can work well with the diverse communities in the District. I believe Yves has all those qualities, and that is why I am supporting him.”
Upon hearing the news of his endorsement, Yves Filius said “I’m extremely blessed and humbled to have the support of Community Leader Mohammed Mardah of Highbridge, one of the many neighborhoods of the 16th council. I’ve known Mr. Mardah for the last decade, and watched him engage his neighbors and promote his native brothers and sister from West Africa; especially those who have recently immigrated and call this great borough home. Mr. Mardah understands the severe importance of raising a family and making sure each child has a fighting chance. Together, we will continue to forge new opportunities and open doors to all our neighbors and ensure a new business hub and cultural recognition of our evolving community is affirmed with the creation of a “Little Africa” community.”
Filius was featured in our Meet The Candidate video interview series last year. Learn more about him, why he is running, his history of community service, his policies, and how he is going to support Bronxites.
The City Council District 16 primary election will be Tuesday, June 22nd, 2021.
