Families throughout NYC are terrified. Parents are afraid to send their children to school because they may not come home. Children are being shot in the street at dismissal walking home.
Weapons seizures in schools are up by 80% this year, compared to pre-pandemic levels. Eighteen loaded guns have been found in schools between September 2021-April 29 this year.
Taser seizures in schools have soared, jumping by a whopping 591%. Knife busts in schools have increased by 25% this year when compared to the 2019-2020 school year. The “Other” category of weapons that includes items like pepper spray and brass knuckles has seen a 326% hike — rising from 279 in 2020 to 1,190 September 2021-February 2022.
Mayor Adams campaigned on Public Safety yet in his 100 days, gun violence has skyrocketed and many children have been shot. It is time for Mayor Adams to get stuff done to protect New Yorkers. No more excuses. New Yorkers will support him in fulfilling his campaign promise to us.
We need Mayor Adams to protect our schools, our streets, and our children.
