Misrach Ewunetie, 20-year-old Princeton University Student, Found Dead
Misrach Ewunetie, a 20-year-old Princeton University student who was reported as missing, was found dead by a staff member on the university’s campus on Thursday, October 20th. Ewunetie was last seen on the morning of Friday, October 14th, around 3 am, near Scully Hall, a residential building on campus.
Her roommates believe she had been sleeping in her dorm room the morning she went missing. After her family had failed to contact her, having not heard from her for a few days, they requested a wellness check from the university’s department of public safety on Sunday, October 16th. According to CNN, searches for her started that night, with the department of public safety issuing a missing person alert on Monday, October 17th.
The student’s disappearance led to an increased presence of law enforcement on the Princeton University campus. According to NPR, drones and helicopters were also used to look for her. Ewunetie’s body was discovered behind tennis courts located on the university’s campus.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s office said that Ewunetie’s body did not show any visible signs of injury and that her death does not appear to be criminal in nature or suspicious, however, the cause of her death would be revealed following an autopsy and other tests.
Still on the News…
Misrach’s brother, Universe Ewunetie, described her as a kind and caring person who “cares about people beyond her.” She was an Ethiopian immigrant from Ohio and was in the process of applying for US citizenship.
According to her brother, one of the things that caused concern from her family was the fact that she missed her citizenship meeting on Saturday, October 15th.
“Misrach’s death is an unthinkable tragedy,” Princeton Vice President W. Rochelle Calhoun said. “Our hearts go out to her family, her friends, and the many others who knew and loved her.”
