IMF & World Bank to Hold Meeting In Washington, D.C.

This year’s Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) will be held at the organization’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. The event will begin on Monday, October 10th, and end on Sunday, October 16th.

A significant number of financial role players and stakeholders from across the globe will attend the event, including “central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and academics,” according to the IMF’s website.

The event, attended by some of the most influential and essential financial minds, will feature seminars, addresses, and talks.

The schedule of the Annual Meetings as presented on both organizations’ websites shows various events touching on global matters on the docket for discussion. A number of the topics notably pertain to African issues. Some of the topics to be discussed at the annual meetings of the boards of the IMF and World Bank include “Analytical Corner: Climate Change and Food Insecurity in Sub-Saharan Africa” and “Accelerating Energy Access for the Poor in Africa Amidst Multiple Crises,” which will be held on October 10th and 11th respectively.

The Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank are traditionally held in Washington, D.C. for two consecutive years and then in a member country in the third year. The first meeting was held in the US capital in 1946.

The IMF and the World Bank are powerful financial institutions that play a significant role in global politics. “Founded at the Bretton Woods conference in 1944, the two institutions have complementary missions. The World Bank Group works with developing countries to reduce poverty and increase shared prosperity, while the International Monetary Fund serves to stabilize the international monetary system and acts as a monitor of the world’s currencies,” according to the World Bank’s website.
