Newly elected Assemblywoman Chantel Jackson has joined the A-Team endorsing Althea Stevens for City Council. Stevens was endorsed by Michael Blake, former Assemblyman and DNC Vice Chair a few days ago.
Stevens, an African-American single mother, is the only woman running in District 16, currently represented by term-limited Vanessa Gibson who is now running for Bronx Borough President. Stevens is the only District 16 candidate to receive matching funds from the Campaign Finance Board so far for the 2021 election cycle.
The endorsements for Stevens keep rolling in from elected officials and good government groups. She has been endorsed by 21in21, Working Families Party, Citizen Action NY, Open New York and Road to Justice, a newly formed coalition consisting of Community Voices Heard Power, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East and Make the Road Action.
When asked about the explosion of support in this hotly contested race, Stevens said:
“Being a black working class woman and a single mother, I take a great deal of pride in all the support that I’m receiving for the campaign that I’m creating – one of young people, people of color, and those who are not usually heard in our community.”
